Welcome! My name is Alejandra Arredondo and I am a freshman at The University of Texas at El Paso. I am currently a full time student with the goal to pursue a career in child psychology. I first became interested in this subject when I read the book A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive by Dave Pelzer. The book is based on a true story and it is about a child, Dave, who is neglected and threatened by his own mother; she forces him to do dangerous chores and tasks around the house and if he didn't complete them, he was punished. The traumatization a child undergoes throughout an abuse is just beyond words. I'd like to be able to help children that undergo through these situations and help them surpass their issues. Being a child psychologist will fulfill my dreams because it's the only thing I can picture myself doing and it's also the only thing I've dreamt of being since I was younger.
The purpose of this website is not only to inform the reader about child abuse and neglect but also to help spread awareness for the children who don't have a voice. Raising awareness for this issue is one of my main goals because as an aunt of young children, I want them to feel safe and be safe in the environment they are in most of the time, school. Child abuse is not a choice and it can be detected and prevented.
